International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is your first point of entry to overseas education in several countries. The British Council administers it and officially approves it as the English test across more than 100 countries such as the UK.
The IELTS exam is held at several centres across India, including Jalandhar, and is a requirement for admission to overseas education. An IELTS score remains valid for 2 years, and candidates can attempt the exam an unlimited number of times. The scores are calculated as Bands between 1 to 9, with 9 being the highest. Different countries have different minimum acceptable levels required for bands.
An IELTS exam is three hours long with the following sections:
1. Listening — This section will make you listen to conversations and lectures and then you’ll have to answer questions from them.
2. Reading — This section involves reading 3-4 passages and answering questions out of them.
3. Writing – You will have to write two essays which will be based on reading and listening activities, to display your opinion.
4. Speaking — You will have to speak on topics that will be based on reading and listening activities.
The purpose of IELTS is to estimate your understanding and usage of the English language for overseas education in international universities. Many English speaking countries do not permit entry if you do not have a valid IELTS score.
